Stakeholder Workshop Summary

The Stakeholder Workshop brought together individuals from the Kenyan Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, University of Nairobi, NGOs including the Global Foundation for Children with Hearing Loss, as well as parents of children with hearing loss, country-based otolaryngologists, and other health care providers.

Participants were given an overview of ear and hearing health in Kenya, presented with information regarding the implementation of ear and hearing health-promoting interventions such as a universal ear and hearing screening program, then shown smartphone-based technologies that could aid in the promotion of ear and hearing health care. The workshop closed with a discussion of how to improve ear and hearing health in Kenya and the formation of a working group.

Next Steps

1). Continue the development of mobile hearing assessment tools

2) Integrate ear and hearing health indicators into existing program materials

3) Engage multi-sectoral stakeholders to increase collaborative promotion of ear and hearing health

4) Disseminate the policy brief and capacitate Ear and Hearing Health Working Group
